Rtp midi isn't worth it (for me)

Rtp is cool because you can send it wirelessly on the local network. I've been recently thinking about buying another usb bluetooth midi cable to replace the one that was damaged in the flood.

Couldn't get it working on linux mint :( Tobias Erichsons rtp program installed but it couldn't find virtual midi drivers. There was a debian version but it needed some dependencies I couldn't find in apt. Somebody was selling a prebuilt version for 12$ for Ubuntu but I decided to quit. I think I had It working before on my mac and it was kind of glitchy and unreliable, Like if you had a simple 4/4 drum loop it would be wonky.

I've wasted enough time on this. I think it's better to know when to quit something than to keep trying. It's really valuable to take a step back and reflect on the problem. Sometimes (often) it doesn't even matter that much after you step away and gain perspective.

Alternatively just use local send or email midi files and render them out, or use Audiolayer to make a soundfont out of it.

Auto Clone Patterns, Place Selected Notes Evenly, M.P.E

auto clone patterns
place selected notes evenly
Musical Programing Environment

m.p.e lets you chop samples and swap patches from your midi controller, auto clone is usefull for jamming automations on loop, it makes a unique pattern when it reaches the end, place evenly is good for quick sequencing expanding out polyrhythms great when combined with cycling shifting

Reason Jungle Tutorial - NNXT Chopping

Selekta Fuzz's Tutorial on Chopping Breaks

I haven't used reason in ages but I still remember this blew my mind when I first saw it. Back in the day Reason didn't have an audio editor. The way you got audio into it was dropping it into redrum, nn19, or nnxt. There was no time stretching. Its genious how he matches it to the tempo by adjusting the speed to a mentronome then, He divides into 8th notes by offsetting start percentages.

  • use root key transpose to adjust pitch/tempo
  • turn on metronome, draw in a note, align snare to click
  • copy, paste, set keyzones
  • to find start % for 8th notes: 100% divided by 8 = 12.5% (hold shift for more precision)
